The wider the lens, the more light is admitted to the binocular, so this 12 x 40 model will admit twice as much light as an 8 x 20 model.

ooops……….it broke!! You don’t want to listen this statement ,when you are heading towards that field trip . Quality of binoculars is far more important than you can think of. So look for it . I will tell you a story of a safari that I went to . I bought a 300 $ binoculars just before the safari started. I loved that binoculars in every way. On third day of that safari , It felt from my lap and one of the lens got broken .So that almost ruined my day . I was lucky at that time that I was carrying two pairs of binoculars. That saved my day.
